CARE is committed to promoting sustainable living and combatting climate change by empowering households across Europe to reduce food waste and extend fashion’s lifespan. Centred on reshaping daily habits, CARE will collaborate closely with citizens, providing personalised, inclusive, and complimentary advisory services to foster sustainable consumption practices. The Circular consumption Activities to tRansform households toward material Efficiency (CARE) project started on 1 January 2024 funded under Horizon Europe and is carried out by eleven consortium partners.

Join us on our journey to a more sustainable future!

Businesses and governments are increasingly moving towards a more circular economy. But what is the role of individual citizens and communities? A more circular lifestyle isn't just a buzzword - it's a practical and impactful way to contribute to better use of materials. It means rethinking how we consume, reuse and recycle resources in our daily lives.

At the heart of the circular economy are households - their choices, habits and actions. By adopting this mindset, they become a vital part of the solution, reducing waste, conserving resources and promoting their own well-being and a healthier planet.

Households joining CARE’s journey will get to participate in practical activities and discover how simple changes in our daily routines can make a big difference. There will be opportunities to explore practical tips, inspiring stories and actionable steps to integrate circular practices into households.

Together, let's unlock the power of everyday choices to create a more sustainable world for generations to come.

How to embrace circular living in households? With CARE!

CARE isn't about preaching sustainability; it's about making it fun, practical and oh-so-rewarding. In our pilots, we will be working closely with 100 households in Finland, Norway, Sweden, Germany and Estonia on the journey to circular living.

Within these pilots, we're focusing on clothes and food as they are everyday essentials and have a huge impact on the environment. Together we will discover how small changes can make a big difference - one circular step at a time.

The pilots aren't just about trying new things, they're about co-creating, testing and refining advisory services and practical activities that make sustainable consumption habits an effortless part of everyday life for individuals, families and communities.

CARE's approach is based on a systematic scientific methodology that accompanies the pilots. We strive to measure and evaluate progress through comprehensive impact assessments that focus on material efficiency, improved living conditions and sustainable well-being. Using advanced methods such as Life Cycle Analysis and Product Environmental Footprinting, our project accurately quantifies the reduction in environmental impact.

At CARE, we turn data into action for a sustainable future.

Let's team up! For a greener world.

We're all about collaboration! Beyond engaging consumers, CARE is formed of NGOs, civil society institutions, vibrant communities, dedicated researchers and CCRI regions working together to accelerate fair, inclusive and sustainable consumer-based transition to circular economy. Our approach is about teamwork, blending diverse perspectives through co-design and co-learning for a holistic impact.

By the time when CARE closes in 2027, we won’t just be wrapping up a project - we're preparing to multiply its impact! In collaboration with our partners and the participating households we're creating intuitive tools which will be a passport to practical, user-friendly solutions, ensuring that our achievements reverberate far and wide for a more sustainable future.

Five different regions. Covering urban and rural landscapes.

The CARE project is set to embark on a transformative journey with pilots in Tampere, Asker, Gothenburg, Berlin, and Lääne-Harju, where the Circular Cities and Regions Initiative (CCRI) already paves the way for a greener future.

These regions, located in the heart of urban landscapes and in the tranquillity of rural areas, have been carefully selected to best reflect the diverse socio-economic and geographical differences across Europe.

In collaboration with the CCRI and European circular economy initiatives, CARE will impact regions far and wide. Our mission? To create a ripple effect of sustainability and shape a sustainable future for Europe, starting right here in Tampere, Asker, Gothenburg, Berlin and Lääne-Harju!
